Working with Children
While I don’t see kids very often, I am more than happy to work with them when they come in. The most common ages I’ve seen are 5-9 years old, but the youngest I’ve ever treated was only 8 weeks old!
Kids have discomfort and pain too. And due to their still developing bodies, children generally respond very quickly to manual therapy. Things such as constipation and trouble sleeping can be helped through manual therapy, and I will teach you (mom or dad) how to maintain the effects of treatment at home.
The one thing about working with kids is that it often looks like a lot of playtime!! These little guys are always on the go, so coming down to their level and earning their trust is pivotal prior to engaging with them on a therapeutic level. I always encourage parents to bring some toys or activities for their children to play with during our session.
The treatment is 100% in their hands. Children, even on a nonverbal level, are very clear when they’ve had enough. For your first appointment I recommend booking 45 minutes to an hour so we have time to talk about what’s been going on. However, my rule with working with kids is that I will only charge you for whatever time we use (minimum 30 minutes). So if we only talk for a bit and get 15 minutes of treatment in, that’s all we do that day.
